DPWH Engineers Assess EDSA-Ortigas Flyover After Bus Fire

Engineers from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) conducted a structural inspection of the EDSA-Ortigas flyover on Thursday following a bus fire incident that raised concerns about the integrity of the infrastructure.

The fire, which broke out on a passenger bus traversing the flyover earlier this week, prompted authorities to temporarily close the section for safety checks. According to DPWH officials, the inspection aimed to evaluate any potential damage caused by the intense heat and ensure the flyover remains safe for public use.

"We are focusing on the structural components, particularly the concrete and steel reinforcements, to see if the fire compromised any load-bearing elements," said a DPWH engineer on site. Preliminary assessments suggest no major damage, but further tests are underway.

The flyover was reopened to traffic later in the day after the inspection was completed. Motorists were advised to expect minimal delays as cleanup operations continue. The bus fire incident is under investigation by the Bureau of Fire Protection.
