Dragons Roar Into European Semifinals After Nail-Biting Victory Over Zebre

Dragons secured a dramatic 35-32 victory over Zebre in Parma on Saturday, booking their place in the European Challenge Cup semifinals for the first time in a decade.

In a thrilling quarterfinal clash, the Welsh side held off a late surge from the Italian hosts to set up a showdown with French giants Montpellier in early May.

Flanker Harrison Keddie emerged as the hero with two crucial tries, while center Fine Inisi and hooker Elliot Dee also crossed the whitewash. Full-back Angus O'Brien contributed 15 points with the boot, proving decisive in the tight contest.

Zebre fought valiantly with tries from Jacopo Trulla, Giulio Bertaccini, Leonardo Krumov, and Giovanni Quattrini, while fly-half Giacomo da Re added 12 points. The Italian side scored two late tries to narrow what had appeared to be a comfortable Dragons lead.

"We knew it would be tough coming here, but the character the boys showed was outstanding," said Dragons coach Filo Tiatia. "To reach a semifinal after ten years is a special moment for this club."

The Dragons' discipline nearly proved costly as they received two first-half yellow cards for backs David Richards and Inisi. The visitors also lost center Aneurin Owen to a head injury assessment after a heavy tackle from Zebre lock Matteo Canali.

Despite the setbacks, the Dragons managed the game effectively in the second half, building a lead that ultimately proved insurmountable for the hosts.

Both teams entered the match as the bottom two sides in the United Rugby Championship, making their European progress all the more remarkable. The Dragons made just one change from their last-16 victory over Stade Francais, with lock Levi Douglas missing due to injury.

The semifinal against Montpellier represents the Dragons' deepest European run since 2014 and provides a bright spot in what has been a challenging domestic season for the Welsh region.
