Fans at Don Toliver’s recent Toronto tour stop received the ultimate hometown surprise when Drake unexpectedly took the stage at Scotiabank Arena. The hip-hop superstar crashed the set to deliver the very first live performances of tracks from his latest blockbuster album, Iceman.
Emerging midway through Toliver's show, Drake treated the ecstatic crowd to a special mini-set featuring three Iceman standouts: “Shabang,” “Burning Bridges,” and the massive hit “Janice STFU.”
Taking a moment to address the arena, Drake expressed his gratitude to both his host and his hometown fans. “I just wanna thank Don for having me out tonight,” he said. “This is my first time performing the album since it dropped, so thank you for being here. Look, I love this thing that we do so much in front of the city, I just want to thank you for keeping this shit alive.”
Toliver was quick to return the praise, acknowledging Drake's undeniable influence on the modern hip-hop landscape. “I appreciate you for inspiring us all,” Toliver told him on stage. “You know damn well this shit wouldn’t be this shit if you ain’t do this shit. I appreciate you so much. You inspired me, and you inspired all of us. Thank you so much for pulling up on me.”
The surprise live debut follows a historic May for Drake, during which he dropped an unprecedented trio of albums: Iceman, Maid of Honour, and Habibti. The release allowed him to achieve a massive milestone by occupying the top three spots on the Billboard 200 simultaneously. Iceman also secured his 15th Number One album, officially surpassing Jay-Z for the most chart-toppers by any rap artist in history. Furthermore, the smash single “Janice STFU” became Drake's 14th Hot 100 Number One, pushing him past Michael Jackson for the most chart-topping singles by a male solo artist.
Following the electrifying Canadian stop, Toliver's Octane World Tour is set to continue. The next show lands in University Park, Pennsylvania, on September 2, with international dates running until the tour wraps up in London this November.
