Eddie Howe to Continue as Newcastle Manager Following Summit with Saudi Owners

Eddie Howe is set to remain as Newcastle United's head coach for the upcoming season after productive talks with the club's Saudi Arabian leadership during their annual summit in Northumberland this week.

Despite a challenging campaign that has seen Newcastle suffer 16 Premier League defeats—more than only Wolves, Burnley, and West Ham—the hierarchy has focused on analyzing shortcomings rather than making an emotional decision. Howe has been part of both the diagnosis and the solution as the club prepares for a crucial summer transfer window.

Howe, 48, who took charge in November 2021, acknowledged facing "difficult questions" during his presentation to the owners and board. However, he also felt their support. Key discussions included the potential sale of star striker Alexander Isak to Liverpool and the club's struggles to find a reliable replacement for the 27-goal forward, having failed in bids for Hugo Ekitike and Joao Pedro.

Despite the difficulties, Newcastle sits just five points off a European spot, reached the EFL Cup semi-finals, and made the Champions League knockout stage for the first time. Howe has been involved in recruitment planning with sporting director Ross Wilson, focusing on widening the club's network and using data more effectively.

"When you don't win football matches, there's a pressure that builds," Howe said after Saturday's 3-1 victory over Brighton, which ended a run of five consecutive defeats. "I want to do a good job for people."

The win has boosted confidence as Newcastle looks to finish the season strongly and rebuild in the summer.
