Elle Fanning recently unveiled the unconventional inspiration behind her latest role in the upcoming Apple TV+ series Margo's Got Money Troubles. The actress revealed she created an OnlyFans persona named HungryGhost for her character Margo Millet—a creative outlet that involved painting her entire body blue.
"We decided, 'Why don't we just paint myself blue?'" Fanning explained in an exclusive interview. "On those days, it took a lot of time in the makeup chair, but they had to cover me in this turquoise paint. I liked it."
Fanning, who executive produces the series alongside her sister Dakota Fanning, described how her character's DIY costumes—designed by her fictional roommate Susie, played by Thaddea Graham—became an integral part of the creative process. The 28-year-old actress emphasized that HungryGhost represented more than just adult content creation for Margo, a struggling single mother and aspiring writer.
"She has such big dreams when we meet her," Fanning said. "Then life throws curveballs, and she thinks she has to give up on those aspirations. In creating HungryGhost, those dreams are kind of fulfilled again—there's a light and a newfound spark."
Fanning, who isn't a parent herself, reflected on connecting with her character's maternal motivations: "What I kept coming back to is this unconditional love you have for your child, and how you're willing to do anything for them to have a better life than you had. I think that's where everything is coming from."
Margo's Got Money Troubles premieres globally on Apple TV+ on April 15 with three initial episodes, followed by weekly releases through May 20.
