Influencer Gabbie Gonzalez's estranged husband is reportedly celebrating her arrest for allegedly conspiring to kill the father of her child, and her former live-in nanny has emerged as a key witness in the case.
Court documents obtained by TMZ reveal that McKenzie Ferry and Cody Clayburn provided statements to investigators about the alleged plot, which targeted boy band singer Jack Avery. A source with direct knowledge said McKenzie, the former nanny, first alerted authorities to the murder-for-hire scheme back in 2021.
Cody Clayburn, who had a non-legal marriage with Gabbie after she had a child with Jack, told authorities that Gabbie was embroiled in a bitter custody battle. According to the L.A. County Sheriff's Department, Cody said Gabbie and her father, Francisco, were "obsessed" with gaining full custody of their 7-year-old daughter, Lavender. Cody claimed Francisco suggested it would be cheaper if Avery were dead.
After Gabbie and Cody married in 2022, the FBI raided their Hawaii home, seizing electronics and interviewing Gabbie. The raid was prompted by McKenzie's report, which also alerted Jack to the alleged plot. However, federal investigators felt they lacked sufficient evidence and handed the case to the L.A. County Sheriff's Department last year. The sheriff's department reinterviewed witnesses and concluded there was enough evidence for arrests.
Authorities had planned to arrest Gabbie this June during a child custody exchange, but when she stopped communicating with Jack, the plan was accelerated. She was arrested last week in Humboldt County, California, while traveling with Lavender, and transferred to Los Angeles County on Monday, where she remains jailed without bail.
Shortly after the news broke, Cody shared a TMZ story on Instagram with the comment "Karma." Francisco Gonzalez was also arrested but has not yet been extradited to Los Angeles, remaining in custody in Florida.
