EU Slaps Temu with $230 Million Fine for Failing to Curb Illegal Product Sales

The European Commission has fined Temu €200 million (approximately $232 million) after finding that consumers are "very likely to encounter illegal items" on the Chinese e-commerce platform. The penalty, announced on May 28, 2026, stems from violations of the Digital Services Act (DSA). Regulators determined that Temu failed to identify and assess systemic risks posed by illegal products on its platform, as well as the resulting harm to customers. The EU had launched a formal DSA investigation into Temu earlier, which led to this landmark fine.
