Nearly three years after actor Angus Cloud's tragic passing, Euphoria creator Sam Levinson has unveiled how the beloved character Fezco will continue in the upcoming third season of the HBO drama.
Levinson, who developed a close bond with Cloud before his death from an accidental overdose in July 2023 at age 25, shared his emotional approach to preserving the actor's memory through the series. "I loved Angus very deeply," Levinson told The Hollywood Reporter. "I couldn't keep him alive in real life but I could keep his character alive in the show."
"I kept him alive and the character has got a great arc. I think he'd be very proud of it."
Levinson revealed he had been working closely with Cloud on season three plans before his passing, even inviting the actor to his home to discuss Fezco's storyline. "I'd tell him what the plans were for the character," Levinson explained to The New York Times. "I'd say, 'Look, he's been in prison for a few years, so you've got to get that yoked prison body.' Because I wanted him to start working out and taking care of himself."
The creator's protective instincts toward Cloud stemmed from their shared experiences with addiction. Levinson, who battled substance abuse in his late teens, brought a sober coach to set and made special efforts to support the young actor. "The reason I'm here today is because someone in my life gave me a second chance," Levinson said. "I wanted to do that same thing for him and for anyone who was struggling with addiction stuff."
Fezco's survival in the series carries particular significance given Levinson's original plans for the character. The creator admitted he had intended to kill off the drug dealer at the end of both season one and season two but "just couldn't do it." He explained, "I wanted him to have something to hold onto, a tangible goal for the future."
Season three of Euphoria premieres on HBO on April 12, 2026, bringing Fezco's story forward while honoring the actor who brought him to life. Levinson's decision to continue the character's journey represents both a creative choice and a personal tribute to Cloud's legacy.
