After Mark Zuckerberg's metaverse ambitions fizzled, the creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion, Hideaki Anno, has stepped in to build his own virtual world. According to the Checkpoint Cafe Podcast, Anno saw Zuckerberg burn billions into his metaverse and shut it down — and decided it was his turn.
The new project, which incorporates Evangelion intellectual property, will be accessible via mobile devices and feature avatars. Notably, the creator of 4chan is reportedly involved in the development. The podcast also speculated about uploading episodes to the new metaverse platform.
Anno's move marks a pivot from Meta's struggling元宇宙 efforts to a creator-driven approach leveraging one of anime's most iconic franchises.
