Ex-Turnstile Guitarist Faces Life Sentence After Charges Upgraded

Former Turnstile guitarist Brady Ebert could spend the rest of his life in prison after a grand jury upgraded charges against him to attempted first-degree murder.

Ebert was indicted on Thursday, April 30, with the new charge replacing an earlier attempted second-degree murder count that carried a maximum 30-year sentence. The first-degree charge carries a potential life sentence.

The arrest stems from an incident in March, when Ebert allegedly ran over Brendan Yates’ father, William, with his car. According to reports, Ebert drove to the Yates home, honked his horn, and shouted at William before driving off. He then returned and intentionally hit William with the vehicle, coming back a third time to tell the victim he "deserved it."

Turnstile later confirmed that William suffered severe physical trauma and underwent surgery, expressing hope for his recovery. During their recent Coachella set, the band played a pre-recorded video message from William, which fans saw as a heartfelt way to address the situation.

Ebert has maintained his innocence, claiming self-defense. He told a district court commissioner that surveillance video would prove he was attacked. “This is pure self-defense. They’re the attackers,” he said.

In addition to attempted first-degree murder, Ebert faces charges of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and two counts of second-degree assault. He remains held without bail at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility. A scheduling conference is set for May 8.

Ebert left Turnstile in 2022 and formed a new band, The S.E.T., in 2025. However, he was ousted from that group in February after accusing Turnstile of misusing funds from a benefit show.

This is a developing story.
