Authorities in the Philippines have confiscated over P2 million worth of counterfeit shampoo and body care products that were found to contain hazardous chemicals. The operation, conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in coordination with local police, targeted a warehouse in Metro Manila where the fake items were being stored and repackaged.
According to officials, the counterfeit products imitated popular brands but were made with substandard and potentially dangerous ingredients. Laboratory tests revealed the presence of toxic substances that could cause skin irritation, allergic reactions, and other health issues.
“These fake products are not only a violation of intellectual property rights but also a serious threat to public health,” said NBI Director Jaime Santiago. “We urge consumers to be vigilant and purchase only from authorized retailers.”
The suspects, who are now facing charges for violation of the Intellectual Property Code and the Consumer Act, may also be charged with serious physical injuries if victims come forward. Authorities are tracing the supply chain to identify other distribution points.
Consumers are advised to check product authenticity through official brand websites or hotlines and to report any suspicious sales to the NBI or the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
