FIFA has confirmed a series of rule changes that will be implemented during the upcoming World Cup, including red cards for players who cover their mouths, corner kicks awarded for time-wasting, and an expanded use of VAR technology. The new regulations aim to improve discipline and flow of the game.
Under the updated rules, players who deliberately cover their mouths while speaking to teammates or officials will face a red card, as this action is deemed to undermine transparency. Additionally, goalkeepers and outfield players who excessively delay play will be penalized with a corner kick awarded to the opposing team, rather than an indirect free kick.
VAR technology will now be used to review a broader range of incidents, including potential red-card offenses and penalty decisions, to ensure consistency. FIFA hopes these changes will enhance the integrity and excitement of the tournament.
