Sophia Hutchins, the late friend and former manager of Caitlyn Jenner, had longstanding financial disputes with her own family long before Jenner claimed Hutchins owed her nearly half a million dollars, according to sources close to the situation.
Hutchins, who was raised by her paternal grandmother Regina, benefited from her grandmother's generosity throughout her life. Regina reportedly covered private school tuition, college expenses at Pepperdine University, travel costs for debate trips, and what sources describe as "hefty" credit card bills.
"Family members cut off Sophia's credit card that grandma was paying for... as some in the family felt she was using and abusing it," sources revealed.
The credit card cutoff reportedly infuriated Hutchins, who was already living with Jenner at the time. Following the financial restriction, Hutchins distanced herself from her family significantly.
Sources indicate that those around Hutchins believed she had taken advantage of her grandmother's generosity and expected to inherit a portion of Regina's estate. Instead, Hutchins reportedly received only a collection of Christmas ornaments, leaving her dissatisfied with the outcome.
While Hutchins attributed the family rift to their lack of support for her gender transition, sources suggest the financial disagreements were the primary cause of the fracture.
Hutchins tragically died in July 2025 in an ATV accident near Jenner's Malibu home. Following her death, Jenner filed a claim against Hutchins' estate for $439,000 in unpaid expenses, including credit card charges, cash advances, shopping, and shared legal fees. The estate has since approved Jenner's claim.
The financial patterns evident in Hutchins' family relationships appear to have foreshadowed the substantial debt she left with her celebrity friend, painting a complex picture of personal relationships intertwined with financial obligations.
