Fitzpatrick Holds Firm at Heritage as Scheffler Charges with Stunning 64

Matt Fitzpatrick maintained his lead at the RBC Heritage after a resilient third-round performance, but world number one Scottie Scheffler closed the gap with a spectacular surge on Saturday.

Fitzpatrick, the 2022 U.S. Open champion, carded a three-under-par 68 at Harbour Town Golf Links in South Carolina to reach 17-under overall. Despite a shaky start with bogeys on his first two holes, the Englishman steadied himself with birdies on the 12th and 14th, then electrified the crowd with a chip-in eagle on the par-5 15th.

"I'm really pleased with how I battled back after those early mistakes," Fitzpatrick said after his round. "This course requires patience, and I managed to find my rhythm when it mattered most."

Scheffler, however, delivered the round of the day with a blistering seven-under 64 that featured eight birdies against just one bogey. The four-time major winner now sits just three shots behind Fitzpatrick at 14-under, setting up a compelling final-round duel.

"I admire him because he works really hard," Scheffler said of Fitzpatrick. "He's a guy that I see always doing stuff in order to play well. He gets really into his stats and checks every single box to get out here and play well."

The leaderboard remains tightly packed behind the leaders. Sepp Straka, Brian Harman, and Si-Woo Kim are tied for third at 13-under, while Ludvig Aberg and Patrick Cantlay lurk at 12-under.

Fitzpatrick will be seeking his second PGA Tour victory on Sunday, while Scheffler aims for his 21st career title and fourth win of the season. The final round promises high drama as golf's elite battle for the iconic tartan jacket at one of the Tour's most picturesque venues.
