Texas band Flatland Cavalry has released their latest album, Work of Heart, marking a bold departure into rock-influenced territory while staying true to their roots. Hailing from Lubbock, the group amplifies their signature sound with heavier guitar riffs and powerful drumming, creating a dynamic backdrop for deeply personal lyrics.
Frontman Cleto Cordero describes the project as "our most honest work yet," noting that the band intentionally pushed musical boundaries to match the emotional intensity of the songs. Tracks like "A Life Where We Work Out" and "Parallel" showcase this fusion, blending twangy Americana with gritty rock energy.
"We wanted the music to hit as hard as the feelings we're singing about," Cordero explains. "Turning up the guitars and letting the drums wallop just felt right for these stories."
The album's themes explore love, loss, and resilience, with Cordero's songwriting drawing from both personal experience and the vast, often lonely landscapes of West Texas. Critics have praised the record for its authenticity, noting that despite the louder instrumentation, the band's heartfelt storytelling remains front and center.
Work of Heart is available now on all major streaming platforms, with a limited vinyl release planned for later this fall.
