Fleetwood Mac icon Lindsey Buckingham was the victim of a bizarre ambush in Santa Monica, California. According to local police, a woman assaulted the legendary guitarist by hurling an unidentified substance at him before fleeing the scene.

The incident occurred just as the musician was entering a building for a scheduled appointment. Authorities suspect the attack was premeditated, as the assailant allegedly uncovered the details of Buckingham's itinerary and lay in wait for his arrival.

Fortunately, Buckingham emerged from the frightening encounter completely unscathed. Law enforcement officials indicated that the suspect is not a random stranger, but rather a woman with whom the rocker has had previous run-ins. Police anticipate making an arrest in the near future.

Prior to this jarring event, Buckingham had been making headlines for much more positive reasons, sparking rumors of a potential reunion with former bandmate Stevie Nicks. Last year, the iconic duo finally reissued their seminal 1973 collaborative album, Buckingham Nicks, making it widely available for the first time in five decades.

The highly anticipated re-release also served as a catalyst for repairing the duo's famously fractured relationship. Nicks recently revealed that the two are communicating once again, noting that discussing the classic record together made their early days feel "really like yesterday."
