Former LAPD Detective Tom Lange Pays Tribute to Mark Fuhrman, Reflects on Historic Rift

Retired LAPD detective Tom Lange has spoken out following the death of his former colleague Mark Fuhrman, acknowledging their infamous disagreements while expressing respect for Fuhrman's work on the O.J. Simpson murder case.

Lange told TMZ he was "shocked" and "very sorry" to learn of Fuhrman's passing, calling the news "terrible." He credited Fuhrman for his role in one of America's most notorious criminal investigations. "Mark was a cop, he was there, he did his job ... got to give him credit for that," Lange said.

The two detectives worked side by side during the Simpson investigation but often clashed publicly in the years that followed. Lange downplayed those disputes, saying, "We've had our disagreements in the past, but everyone has disagreements."

Fuhrman died last week at age 74 after battling an aggressive form of throat cancer. He became a flashpoint in the Simpson trial after being accused of racism and evidence tampering by the defense—allegations that helped shape the trial's outcome.

Lange retired from the LAPD in 1996 after nearly 30 years and more than 250 homicide investigations. He continues to work as a private investigator, television consultant, and advocate against domestic violence.
