A French court has officially rejected a request to extradite the daughter of ousted Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali back to her home country.
Judicial authorities in Paris based their ruling on a lack of communication and legal assurances from the Tunisian government. French magistrates had previously reached out to Tunis, demanding concrete guarantees that the former leader's daughter would face a fair and impartial trial presided over by an independent court.
Because Tunisian officials failed to respond to these critical demands, France concluded that the necessary conditions for a just legal process could not be verified, ultimately prompting the court to deny the extradition.
