An 18-year-old French student in Singapore has been charged with mischief and public nuisance after licking a straw from a vending machine and returning it to the dispenser. Didier Gaspard Owen Maximilien posted a video of the act on Instagram, which later went viral, sparking widespread disgust.
The incident occurred on March 12 at a shopping center. The company that owns the machine, iJooz, replaced all 500 straws and filed a police report. Maximilien, a student at Essec Business School's Singapore campus, could face up to two years in jail and significant fines if convicted. His case is scheduled for a court hearing on May 22.
