Friends of Late NASCAR Star Greg Biffle Allegedly Plotted to Steal His Fortune After Fatal Plane Crash

Four months after NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, his wife Cristina Grossu, and their two children died in a plane crash, a search warrant application has revealed that authorities suspect the racer's "inner circle" conspired to rob him of his wealth.

The warrant, filed on March 10 by the Iredell County Sheriff's Office and obtained by the Charlotte Observer, alleges that a January 7 break-in at the Biffle family home in North Carolina was part of a calculated scheme. During that burglary, $30,000 in cash, NASCAR memorabilia, and two Glock handguns were stolen.

“It is the belief of this affiant that a plan has been in place by friends of Gregory Biffle, and strategically executed after the death of the Biffle family,” a detective wrote in the application.

Investigators uncovered “multiple counts of fraud” on bank accounts belonging to Biffle and Grossu, describing it as “a strategic and coordinated strike against all accounts through multiple States which has resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars being stolen.” They believe “multiple conspirators” had “intimate knowledge” of the family's personal information, including Social Security numbers, birthdays, and passwords.

Suspicious activity on email and bank accounts began the day after the December 18 crash, with email addresses, phone numbers, and passwords being changed, according to the warrant.

In the break-in case, investigators matched surveillance footage of a suspect to a woman who attended Biffle’s celebration of life in December. The woman was identified as a friend of Grossu’s.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing. E! News has reached out to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office for comment but has not received a response.

Biffle, 55, his wife Cristina, and their children Ryder, 5, and Emma, 14, died alongside three others when their plane crashed in North Carolina on December 18. The families later released a joint statement expressing devastation and remembering Emma as “a wonderful human being with a kind soul” and Ryder as “an active, curious and infinitely joyful child.”
