Jonny Clayton, the Welsh darting sensation who once juggled arrows with a trowel, is rewriting the script of the Premier League Darts. At 51, the former plasterer for Carmarthenshire County Council currently leads the table after 11 weeks, defying expectations as a wildcard entry.
Clayton’s journey to the top was anything but straightforward. For years, he balanced council work with professional darts, a dual life he once defended as essential for keeping his mind fresh. His breakthrough came in 2021 when he won the Masters, earned a Premier League debut, and stunned the darting world by winning the whole tournament—taking home £250,000. Yet, even after that triumph, he returned to plastering before finally committing full-time to darts in 2022.
This year’s campaign has been his most dominant yet. With 29 points, 17 match wins, and four nightly victories—including back-to-back triumphs—Clayton has outperformed every other player in the 2026 Premier League. He holds a commanding lead, with only five weeks remaining before the finals at the O2 Arena.
In the official tournament programme, Clayton named the Premier League as his favorite part of the darting calendar, a sentiment reflected in his flawless record: he has reached finals night in every appearance. Now, he aims to replicate his 2021 glory and prove that the former decorator can indeed be decorated once again.
