A Delta Air Lines passenger, fed up with hours-long delays, pried open an emergency exit door on a plane at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and demanded to be let off, according to video footage and reports.
The incident occurred on a flight bound for Chicago that had been delayed due to severe weather. The man, whose identity has not been released, became increasingly agitated as the wait dragged on. Video shows him approaching the exit door, opening it, and stepping onto the wing as other passengers looked on in shock.
Delta confirmed that the aircraft returned to the gate after the disturbance. Police took the man into custody. No injuries were reported, and the flight was eventually rescheduled.
Aviation experts say tampering with emergency equipment is a federal offense that can result in fines and a lifetime ban from flying. The FAA is investigating.
