Jim Furyk has been named captain of the US Ryder Cup team for the 2027 edition, set to take place at Adare Manor in Ireland. The 55-year-old returns to the role he held in 2018, when the US suffered a heavy defeat to Europe in Paris.
Furyk becomes only the fourth US captain to lead the team twice in the modern era of the competition, which began in 1979. He steps in after Tiger Woods declined the position earlier this month following his arrest for driving under the influence.
"The opportunity to captain the US Ryder Cup team for a second time is a tremendous honour," Furyk said. "I am committed to putting our players in the best position to succeed as we work to reclaim the cup on European soil."
The 2027 Ryder Cup is scheduled for 17-19 September at Adare Manor in County Limerick. Europe, led by Luke Donald, will aim for a second successive victory on home turf.
Ryder Cup History with Furyk: Furyk played in nine Ryder Cups, winning in 1999 and 2008, but his captaincy in 2018 drew criticism after his four wildcard picks combined for just two points from 12 matches.
