Britain's WBC light-welterweight champion Dalton Smith has been forced to pull out of his scheduled title defense against Alberto Puello due to an injury sustained during training camp. The unbeaten 29-year-old was set to make his first world title defense in his hometown of Sheffield on June 6, just months after capturing the belt with a knockout win over Subriel Matias in January.
With Smith sidelined, Olympic gold medalist Galal Yafai's unification bout against Ricardo Sandoval has been promoted to the main event at the Utilita Arena. Sandoval holds the WBA and WBC flyweight titles, while Yafai is the interim WBC champion.
The reshuffled card also features Josh Padley defending his European super-featherweight title against domestic rival Aqib Fiaz, and Ibraheem Sulaimaan facing Ibrahim Nadim for the English super-featherweight belt. Teenage heavyweight Leo Atang will fight in his native Yorkshire, while unbeaten prospects Adam Maca and Connor Mitchell round out the undercard.
