A Community in Grief
The funeral, described as the largest of its kind in Gaza, brought together a community still reeling from the loss. Forty-four children, 38 women, and seven individuals with disabilities were among the victims. The attack on the residential block in the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City occurred on November 22, 2023, a day marked by heavy bombardment.
Ongoing Humanitarian Crisis
Since the start of the war, at least 73,377 people have been killed in Gaza, according to the Hamas-run health ministry. Thousands more remain unaccounted for, with many believed to be under the rubble left by intense Israeli air strikes. The ICRC has provided material support and training to aid in the recovery efforts, emphasizing the importance of treating the deceased with dignity and allowing families to mourn their loss.
