GCash Cracks Down on ‘Quishing’ Scams, Shuts Down Fraudulent Sites

GCash, the leading mobile wallet in the Philippines, has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy against 'quishing' scams, blocking a wave of fake illegal websites designed to steal users' credentials. The company announced that it has taken down multiple fraudulent sites impersonating GCash, protecting millions of users from potential financial loss.

'Quishing'—a form of phishing that uses QR codes—has become a growing threat, with scammers tricking users into scanning malicious codes that lead to fake login pages. Once victims enter their credentials, attackers gain unauthorized access to their accounts.

GCash's cybersecurity team proactively identifies and blocks such sites in real-time. The company urges users to always verify the legitimacy of QR codes and links before scanning or clicking. 'We remind everyone to only use official GCash channels and never share their MPIN or OTP with anyone,' a GCash spokesperson said.

To stay safe, GCash recommends enabling the 'App Lock' feature, updating the app regularly, and reporting suspicious activities immediately. The platform also collaborates with law enforcement and cybersecurity agencies to track down scammers.

As digital payments surge, GCash remains committed to safeguarding its ecosystem, ensuring that users can transact with confidence.
