Gemini Gets Memory in Europe and a Tool to Import Your ChatGPT History

Google is rolling out personalization features for its Gemini AI assistant in Europe, chief among them a memory function that lets the AI learn from past conversations to tailor future responses. The feature, called 'Memories,' is enabled by default but users can switch it off in settings. It works similarly to ChatGPT's memory: Gemini stores details such as your name, job, hobbies, and location, then references them when it thinks the information might be useful.

Google is also introducing switching tools that allow users to transfer memories, context, and chat history from other AI apps into Gemini. You can upload a ZIP file of your chat history or paste an import prompt that summarizes preferences from another service. Both features are rolling out to all European users in the coming weeks, after being previously available in the US.

The launch marks Google's latest effort to make Gemini more competitive with ChatGPT by offering seamless data portability and personalized AI interactions.
