A large-scale study on a major global e-commerce platform has demonstrated that integrating Generative AI (GenAI) into core business workflows can increase sales by up to 16.3%. The research, which embedded AI tools across seven key areas including customer service, search refinement, and product descriptions, found that the technology primarily drives growth by improving conversion rates and reducing friction in the shopping experience.
The effects were most pronounced among less experienced consumers, suggesting that AI helps bridge information gaps that often hinder purchasing decisions. Notably, the uplift in sales did not lead to a corresponding rise in product returns, indicating that customer satisfaction remained stable throughout the experiment.
These findings suggest that Generative AI offers meaningful economic value by enhancing user experience without sacrificing quality. As e-commerce continues to evolve, the strategic application of AI in everyday operations may prove essential for retailers seeking to stay competitive.
