George Clooney Rallies Behind Jimmy Kimmel Amid Trump Feud Over 'Expectant Widow' Joke

George Clooney stepped up to defend Jimmy Kimmel during the late-night host's ongoing clash with former President Donald Trump and Melania Trump over a controversial joke.

At Monday night's 51st Chaplin Award Gala, Clooney addressed the uproar surrounding Kimmel's recent skit, where he quipped that Melania had "the glow of an expectant widow" during a mock White House Correspondents' Dinner segment. The Trumps called for Kimmel to be fired by ABC, but Clooney argued that the remark was simply a joke.

"Jokes are jokes," Clooney told the audience, according to reports. He cautioned that the escalating rhetoric was "a little dangerous," noting that President Trump's chief spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt, had also made a lighthearted comment about "shots fired" to a Fox News reporter on the red carpet just before the WHCD event was disrupted by an alleged gunman.

Clooney pointed out Leavitt's remark was not meant literally, reinforcing his point that context matters in comedy. The actor and director, who was being honored at the gala for his Hollywood career, stood firmly with Kimmel.

Kimmel, for his part, refused to apologize to the Trumps on his Monday show, echoing Clooney's sentiment that it was all in good fun. The incident has sparked a national debate about the boundaries of satire and political rhetoric.
