GMA Network Profit Plummets 87% in Q1 as Election Ad Revenue Disappears

GMA Network Inc. reported an 87% drop in net profit for the first quarter of 2025, as the absence of election-related advertising hit the broadcaster's bottom line. The company posted a net income of ₱124 million, down from ₱932 million in the same period last year, when campaign spending for the 2024 midterm elections drove ad revenues.

Consolidated revenues fell 28% to ₱4.1 billion, dragged by a steep decline in advertising sales. Without the election ad boost, the company relied more on its regular programming and digital initiatives. Despite the slump, GMA remained profitable, contrasting with some peers that posted losses.

GMA Chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon said the results were expected given the lack of political spending, but expressed optimism for a recovery in the second half of the year as corporate advertising picks up. The company continues to invest in content production and digital expansion to strengthen its competitive position.
