Grand Central Attack Ends in Police Shooting After Machete-Wielding Suspect Wounds Three Elderly Victims

A chaotic scene unfolded at New York's Grand Central Terminal on Tuesday when a man armed with a machete attacked three elderly individuals before being fatally shot by responding police officers.

According to authorities, the suspect entered the bustling transit hub during the afternoon rush hour and began assaulting victims with the large blade. All three injured individuals are reported to be elderly, with their current conditions ranging from serious to stable at area hospitals.

"Our officers responded within minutes to multiple 911 calls reporting an active attacker," said NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban. "When they encountered the individual still wielding the weapon and posing an immediate threat to public safety, they discharged their firearms."

Witnesses described panic spreading through the terminal as commuters scrambled for safety. "People were screaming and running in every direction," said Maria Rodriguez, who was waiting for a train when the attack began. "I saw an older man on the ground, and then I heard the shots."

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority temporarily suspended service through Grand Central as police secured the area and began their investigation. Forensic teams could be seen collecting evidence hours after the incident.

While the motive remains unclear, authorities have confirmed they are not treating the attack as terrorism-related at this time. The investigation continues as officials review security footage and interview dozens of witnesses.

Grand Central Terminal, which serves approximately 750,000 commuters daily, resumed normal operations by evening, though the normally vibrant main concourse remained somber with visible increased police presence.
