Grey's Anatomy Season 22 Finale: Kwan Fired, Owen's Fate Hangs in Balance After Bridge Crash

The penultimate episode of Grey's Anatomy season 22 delivered seismic shocks: Dr. Benson Kwan (Harry Shum Jr.) was fired, and Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) may be dead or injured after a horrific car crash.

In the April 30 episode, Chief Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) tried to protect Kwan by taking the blame for his unauthorized use of an FDA-unapproved hydrogel. However, Chief Richard Weber (James Pickens Jr.) discovered the lie. Benching Bailey, Weber then revealed Kwan's fate: "He's fired."

Meanwhile, Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) received a voicemail from Owen apologizing for an earlier fight. Mid-message, the call cut to crashing noises as the screen went black—a cliffhanger signaling Owen's car accident on a collapsing bridge.

Creator Shonda Rhimes had previously assured fans that Owen and Teddy would get a happy ending, saying, "It is both bittersweet and joyful to give this couple the happy ending their story deserves." This latest twist suggests their exit may not be smooth.

Fans are left reeling as the season finale approaches, with Kwan's dismissal and Owen's uncertain fate setting the stage for major departures.
