GTA 6 leak suggests an on-disc physical release is coming in December

Grand Theft Auto 6 pre-orders are finally live alongside details about exactly what's coming in the Ultimate Edition of the game, however some fans are disgruntled because Rockstar Games revealed the "physical" release would just be a download code in a box, as opposed to an actual disc.

However, a new leak from Polish video game site PPE (first spotted by Insider Gaming) claims that an on-disc version of GTA 6 will arrive just a few short weeks after the Nov. 19 release date.

"GTA 6 is to be sold with a code in the box only around the release, and then we will receive a normal boxed version of the game — with a disc on which we will find data allowing us to run GTA 6 without assigning a key/access to our account on PlayStation or Xbox," reads the translated version of the PPE article. "According to initial leaks, the disc edition is expected to be released in December 2026, just before the holidays."

An updated version of the article also includes a screenshot from Rockstar Games' customer service, where a representative explains that "current pre-orders are for the digital update only. A physical copy will be available for purchase in the coming months."

While this is still a little vague — "digital update only" doesn't accurately describe a download code, and "physical copy" doesn't necessarily imply a disc-loaded release — and there have been plenty of occasions where a customer service rep hasn't had all the correct info, it's certainly another sign that the leak may be correct. With that said, the statement only confirms the physical game will be released "in the coming months," which doesn't commit to the December launch.

In terms of credibility, PPE was the site that initially reported that GTA 6 would not have a physical release, back in January of this year. Their source, "Graczdari," is allegedly involved in European physical game sales. Outside of GTA, PPE has accurately reported on physical editions of Oblivion Remastered, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, and more.

So if you're extremely keen to have a disc-based edition of GTA 6, it may be worth holding off on pre-ordering for a little while, especially if you're happy not playing on day one.
