Gunman Shot Dead at White House Correspondents' Dinner

President Trump Evacuated as Shots Ring Out in Hotel Lobby

A tense evening at the White House Correspondents' Dinner turned violent on Saturday when a shooter opened fire in the hotel lobby, prompting an immediate evacuation of President Donald Trump and other high-ranking officials. The attacker was killed by law enforcement, and no other injuries were reported.

The incident occurred at the Washington Hilton, where the annual dinner was underway. Multiple shots were heard, shattering glass in the lobby. The room fell into chaos as attendees, including journalists and administration officials, scrambled for cover under tables.

According to CNN's Wolf Blitzer, the shooter was neutralized by police. The motley crew of VIPs present included First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and several Cabinet secretaries—virtually the entirety of the Trump administration's front row.

The event had just begun with a welcome speech from White House Correspondents' Association president Weijia Jiang when the disturbance erupted. C-SPAN footage captured the moment President Trump was rushed from the ballroom by Secret Service agents.

Organizers later announced the dinner would resume shortly, though it remained unclear whether the President would return. The motive behind the attack is under investigation.
