Hall of Fame Basketball Coach Rick Adelman Passes Away at 79

Rick Adelman, the Hall of Fame basketball coach known for his innovative offense and leadership of iconic NBA teams, has died at the age of 79. Adelman's coaching career spanned over two decades, during which he amassed 1,042 regular-season wins and guided teams such as the Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, and Houston Rockets to deep playoff runs.

Adelman was best known for orchestrating the "Princeton offense," a motion-based system that emphasized spacing, passing, and player movement. He led the Trail Blazers to two NBA Finals appearances in 1990 and 1992, and later transformed the Sacramento Kings into a perennial contender, coming within a game of the Finals in 2002.

His coaching peers and players remembered him as a calm, thoughtful leader who let the game come to his players. "He was a genius on the sidelines," said former Kings guard Mike Bibby. "He made the game fun and simple."

Adelman was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2021. He is survived by his wife Mary Kay and their children.
