Comedian and voice actor Eugene Mirman, widely beloved for voicing Gene Belcher on the hit animated sitcom Bob's Burgers, is on the mend following a terrifying, near-fatal car accident.
On the morning of March 31, the 51-year-old actor was involved in a severe collision at the Bedford Toll Plaza in New Hampshire. According to state authorities, Mirman was driving a 2026 Lucid Gravity that struck the toll structure at approximately 11:55 a.m. The impact sparked a fire, temporarily trapping the actor inside the burning vehicle.
Disaster was ultimately averted thanks to the swift actions of a veteran state trooper assigned to New Hampshire Governor Kelly Ayotte's security detail. The trooper, who was nearby as the crash unfolded, sprang into action and managed to pull Mirman from the blazing wreckage through a window with the assistance of fast-acting bystanders.
"Eugene was in a very scary car accident," Mirman's representative shared in a statement following the rescue. "He wants to thank the bystanders, state police, first responders and hospital staff who saved him. He is grateful to be on the mend."
The spokesperson added a polite request for privacy while the actor focuses on recovering from the serious injuries he sustained during the wreck.
State Police have opted to keep the heroic trooper's identity confidential due to their sensitive security assignment, but praise has poured in from top officials. New Hampshire State Police Colonel Mark B. Hall lauded the rescue, noting, "Certainly, their actions were heroic in what they did. Without hesitation, they put themselves in danger to render aid to someone who was in need of it."
Governor Ayotte also took to social media to express her profound gratitude for the first responders and the citizens who leaped into action. "It's an example of the great work first responders do each day to keep New Hampshire safe and how Granite Staters always step up to help someone in need," she wrote, adding that she and her husband are praying for Mirman's full recovery.
The official cause of the collision remains under active investigation by local authorities, and no charges have been filed at this time.
