The World Snooker Championship semi-final between John Higgins and Shaun Murphy is perfectly balanced at 8-8 after a gripping second session at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
Higgins, a four-time world champion who turns 51 next month, came out firing after the opening session. He punished a missed black from Murphy to take the first frame with a break of 72.
Murphy, seeking his second Crucible title after a 21-year drought, responded with a composed 88 break to level the match at 6-6. However, Higgins regained the lead after Murphy missed a plant to the right middle pocket, converting a 57 break.
The Scot extended his advantage with a stunning 86 break, but Murphy fought back to take a scrappy 15th frame and then capitalized on a Higgins miss with the rest to level the scores once more.
The best-of-33-frame contest resumes on Friday at 19:00 BST for the third session, with eight more frames scheduled.
In the other semi-final, China's Wu Yize holds a commanding 6-2 lead over Mark Allen ahead of their second session.
