The entertainment world is celebrating a new arrival that bridges two legendary comedy families. Eddie Murphy has confirmed that his son Eric Murphy and Martin Lawrence's daughter Jasmin Lawrence recently welcomed their first child—a baby girl named Ari Skye.
Murphy shared the news exclusively with E! News at the American Film Institute's achievement award ceremony on April 18. "They just had a baby girl," the actor revealed. "They just had her two weeks ago, or a week ago. Yeah, Ari Skye."
When asked about parenting advice for the new parents, the 65-year-old comedian offered a characteristically humorous yet insightful perspective. "Oh, you don't give advice like that," he explained. "You know, your kids don't go by your advice. Your kids go by the example you set. They watch you."
He quipped, "The stuff you be saying, they don't even pay that s--t no mind. They watch and see what you do. So, I don't give a lot of advice."
Despite receiving the Life Achievement Award at the ceremony—an honor that will air on Netflix May 31—Murphy emphasized that his true legacy lies elsewhere. "My legacy to me isn't my work," he shared. "My legacy to me is my children. So, that's my legacy."
He added, "This is a wonderful thing, though, to be honored. I have to make movies for so, so long. So, it's a wonderful thing to recognize because I did my thing."
The couple, who married in a private ceremony last year, announced their pregnancy in February with a heartfelt Instagram post featuring Eric cradling Jasmin's baby bump. The caption simply read: "Thank you Jesus for the greatest gift."
Martin Lawrence, who becomes a grandfather for the first time, expressed overwhelming joy on social media following the pregnancy announcement. "What a blessing to start the day!" the comedian wrote. "My heart is overflowing with love and gratitude after the announcement of my first grandchild!"
He continued, "Watching Jasmin and Eric begin this journey into parenthood means everything to me. Family is everything—and this moment is nothing less than a blessing from God. Welcome to the next generation!"
Eric Murphy, 36, is Eddie's eldest son from his previous relationship with Paulette McNeely, while Jasmin Lawrence, 30, is one of Martin Lawrence's three daughters.
