Wilmslow, Cheshire
The market town, in the Cheshire “golden triangle” that is popular with celebrities and footballers, has a busy high street with bars, restaurants, and gyms. Within walking distance of the centre is a converted Victorian townhouse split into four apartments. The penthouse has two bedrooms and one bathroom. The hallway leads into a dining room and out on to a balcony, with views over the Bollin Valley. The sitting room and kitchen sit on either side. There are manicured lawns in the communal gardens and a seating area to host gatherings. £550,000. Savills,01625 417 452 Photograph: Savills

The grounds that surround the house include open lawns, a wildflower meadow and an orchard. Immediately outside the kitchen is a patio for dining and a wild pond; tucked away is an old cart lodge. Elm, Cambridgeshire
In the centre of the village (in the Cambridgeshire fens and close to the Norfolk border) is a grand Grade II-listed Georgian house, conveniently positioned near two pubs. It sits in gardens designed by a Chelsea flower show gold medal winner, with a smattering of outbuildings, a potting shed and a summer house. At the back is a raised terrace and two more seating areas, one covered and one under a pergola. Guests can follow the winding paths to explore the woodland. The house has six bedrooms, a kitchen with a boot room, and a study. £950,000.Sowerbys, 01553 766 741 Photograph: Sowerbys

Burton Joyce, Nottinghamshire
The heart of this modern detached country house is the vast open-plan kitchen, dining and living space with Corian work surfaces, a huge island and a boiling water tap. It is dual aspect, and both sides have glazed doors that slide back entirely on to the garden so guests can spill out on to the lawn. The tech continues with air conditioning and electric blinds. There is a detached double garage and a garden room that is now used as a gym with a sauna and a well-equipped games den. £925,000. HomeMove,01158 321 321 Photograph: HomeMove

Willesden Green, London
This award-winning two-bedroom ground-floor flat is in an Edwardian terrace. It is in two parts. There is the original layout, which retains its period features such as cornicing and monochrome tiling underfoot. At the back is a new extension inspired by Victorian greenhouses, clad in terracotta tiling, looking out on to a neat garden with room for al fresco dining. Mature trees surround it and provide shade in the summer. The underground station is round the corner and Gladstone Park is within walking distance. £950,000.
