Former Arizona basketball star Mike Bibby is weighing in on the highly anticipated Final Four matchup between the Wildcats and the Michigan Wolverines, and he isn't mincing words. According to the 1997 NCAA champion, this weekend's clash is the de facto national title game.
Speaking ahead of the blockbuster tournament game, Bibby made it clear that these two No. 1 seeds are the undisputed heavyweights of the college basketball landscape.
"I think those are the two best teams in college sports and college basketball," Bibby stated. "They showed it all year, and now... I think it's going to be a hell of a fight out there."
The 14-year NBA veteran firmly believes that whichever powerhouse survives this brutal semifinal will inevitably be the one cutting down the nets on Monday night. However, he warned that securing the win will be anything but a cakewalk.
Offering some veteran wisdom to his alma mater, Bibby stressed the importance of staying grounded and executing under pressure.
"Hate to sound cliché, but you got to take it game by game and just go out there and get there first," he advised, adding that it will be a remarkably tough contest with no easy buckets.
While Bibby is undeniably rooting for the Wildcats to emerge victorious, he expects an absolute war on the hardwood. Beyond his Final Four predictions, the basketball icon continues his own coaching journey as the current head coach at Sacramento State, where he is notably working alongside fellow NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal.
