Hot Chocolate Co-Founder and Bassist Tony Wilson Dies at 89

Tony Wilson, the bassist and co-writer behind Hot Chocolate's biggest hits including "You Sexy Thing," "Emma," and "Brother Louie," has died at the age of 89.

Wilson was a founding member of the British soul band, which rose to fame in the 1970s. He co-wrote many of the group's chart-topping songs with frontman Errol Brown. The band's distinctive sound blended funk, soul, and pop, earning them a lasting place in music history.

"You Sexy Thing" became one of Hot Chocolate's most enduring songs, famously featured in the film The Full Monty and later adopted as an anthem by various sports teams. Wilson's bass lines were a key element of the band's groove, underpinning their infectious rhythms.

Wilson's death was confirmed by his family, though the cause has not been disclosed. He is survived by his wife and children.

"Tony was the heartbeat of Hot Chocolate. His talent and warmth touched everyone who knew him," a band spokesperson said.

Wilson retired from the music industry in the late 1990s but remained a beloved figure among fans of classic soul and pop.
