Houston Officer Fired After Racist Rant Video: Chief Denounces 'Abhorrent' Behavior

The Houston Police Department has terminated Officer Ashley Gonzalez after a viral video showed her using racial slurs and making inflammatory comments. Chief J. Noe Diaz Jr. described her conduct as "abhorrent, disgusting, and entirely unacceptable."

Gonzalez was relieved of duty immediately after the video surfaced, and the department completed an internal investigation "as fast as legally possible" under Texas civil service laws. The Houston Police Officers' Union previously expressed being "extremely disturbed" by the footage.

In the video, Gonzalez recounted an alleged wallet theft attempt, repeatedly using the n-word and stating, "Y'all don't know how good it felt to say n***** out loud. Oh my God, I felt like I was back in the Marine Corps." She also made additional remarks about slavery and racial discrimination.

Chief Diaz emphasized that such behavior "has no place in law enforcement or in our community."
