Hugging Face, the AI community and platform company, announced its acquisition of Pollen Robotics, a startup specializing in open-source humanoid robots. The deal marks Hugging Face's entry into hardware, as it plans to sell ready-to-use robots under an open-source model.
Pollen Robotics is known for its Reachy robot, an open-source, expressive humanoid designed for research and education. The acquisition will allow Hugging Face to integrate its AI models directly into robotics, offering developers and researchers a fully programmable platform.
"We believe open-source robotics will unlock the next wave of AI innovation," said a Hugging Face spokesperson. "By combining our AI expertise with Pollen's hardware, we can make advanced robotics accessible to everyone."
The robots will be sold through Hugging Face's platform, with full documentation and community support. Financial terms were not disclosed.
