Now, as AI systems increasingly impact daily life, Hugging Face aims to answer a critical question: What does a technology company with ethics in mind from the start look like?
The newsletter is produced by an open group of employees—“Ethics and Society regulars”—who meet as equals to examine the societal implications of ML and the company's role. They emphasize that ethics cannot be siloed into a dedicated team; instead, shared responsibility across the entire organization is essential.
Key initiatives highlighted include:
- Documentation and evaluation tools (model cards, evaluation on the Hub)
- Community feedback channels (Discord, repository flagging for ethical/legal issues)
- Transparent project values (e.g., ethical charters for multimodal models)
