India's Sovereign AI Ambition: How the IndiaAI Mission and Sarvam AI Are Building a Self-Reliant Future

India is forging its own path in artificial intelligence through a strategic partnership between the government-backed IndiaAI Mission and homegrown startup Sarvam AI. With a substantial ₹10,300 crore budget, IndiaAI is providing the computational infrastructure and datasets needed to fuel domestic innovation. Sarvam AI is translating this vision into reality by developing indigenous large language models such as Sarvam-1 and Indus, designed to serve India's 22 official languages. These models enable voice-based access to critical services like Aadhaar, making AI more inclusive.
