Instagram has rolled out a highly requested feature that allows users to edit their comments after posting, addressing a common frustration among its user base. The new functionality provides a 15-minute window from the time a comment is published to make corrections.
According to Meta spokesperson Nicole Rechtszaid, users can make unlimited edits within that 15-minute period. To access the editing option, users simply need to tap the "Edit" text that appears after adding a comment to any post. Edited comments will be marked with a gray "Edited" label for transparency.
This update eliminates the previous workaround where users had to delete and repost comments to fix typos or errors. The feature is currently available on the iOS app and is expected to roll out across other platforms soon.
Instagram's announcement comes as social media platforms continue to refine their user experience features, with comment editing being a standard capability on many competing platforms that Instagram had notably lacked until now.
