Iran's Parliament Speaker Urges Global Ceasefire, Equates Lebanon and Gaza Stakes

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has declared that establishing a ceasefire in Lebanon is equally crucial to securing one in Gaza, framing both conflicts as interconnected priorities for regional stability.

Speaking in Tehran, Ghalibaf emphasized Iran's diplomatic efforts to pressure the United States and Israel into agreeing to permanent ceasefires across multiple conflict zones. "Tehran is striving to compel the U.S. and Israel to establish a lasting ceasefire in all areas of tension," he stated, highlighting a broader strategy beyond immediate flashpoints.

His comments come amid heightened cross-border exchanges between Hezbollah and Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, alongside the ongoing war in Gaza. Analysts suggest the statement signals Iran's intent to leverage its influence over allied groups to de-escalate hostilities while positioning itself as a key mediator.

"A sustainable peace requires comprehensive solutions, not isolated truces. The fates of Lebanon and Gaza are intertwined in the pursuit of regional security," Ghalibaf asserted, underscoring a holistic approach to conflict resolution.

The appeal reflects growing international concern over the risk of a wider Middle East war, with Iran advocating for synchronized diplomatic initiatives to address what it views as linked crises.
