Isle of Man Cuts VAT on Kids' Meals and Family Outings to Ease Cost of Living

Families in the Isle of Man will soon see cheaper restaurant bills and reduced prices for cinema, theatre, and attraction tickets, thanks to a temporary VAT cut announced by the Treasury.

From 25 June to 1 September, the VAT on children's meals, family tickets to cultural events, and admission to attractions will drop from 20% to 5%. The measure mirrors similar UK initiatives aimed at easing cost-of-living pressures.

Treasury Minister Chris Thomas said the government recognizes that household budgets are stretched. "Cutting VAT on family activities and extending fuel duty support is set to help residents manage everyday expenses while also giving a welcome boost to local businesses during the summer months," he stated.

Additionally, the Isle of Man will freeze fuel duty until 31 December. From 15 June, duty on red diesel will be reduced by about a third, from 10.18p to 6.48p per litre, supporting the farming and fishing industries.

Environment, Food and Agriculture Minister Clare Barber highlighted that fuel costs are "a real and significant pressure for our hard-working farming and fishing businesses." She added that the duty cut "will provide practical support and greater certainty, helping to protect livelihoods and enabling producers to continue contributing to the Island's economy."
