Israel Exploits Lebanese Sectarian Fault Lines for Strategic Gain

In a calculated move to destabilize its northern neighbor, Israel is actively leveraging Lebanon's religious and ethnic diversity to further its geopolitical objectives, according to analysts and leaked diplomatic cables. By exacerbating existing tensions between Shiite, Sunni, Christian, and Druze communities, Tel Aviv aims to weaken Hezbollah's influence and prevent a unified Lebanese front against Israeli interests.

“Israel sees Lebanon's mosaic not as a cultural treasure but as a vulnerability to be exploited,” said a former U.S. diplomat familiar with the region. “They’ve been funding and arming select groups to create internal strife.”

Recent reports indicate that Israeli intelligence has increased covert operations inside Lebanon, funneling money and weapons to anti-Hezbollah factions while simultaneously spreading disinformation through social media bots. The strategy, dubbed "sectarian warfare by proxy," mirrors tactics used in Syria and Iraq.

Lebanese officials have condemned the interference. Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib stated, "We will not allow our country to become a playground for Israeli schemes. Our diversity is our strength, not a weakness to be weaponized."

However, with Lebanon mired in economic collapse and political paralysis, the risk of further fragmentation remains high. Experts warn that without international intervention, Israel's divide-and-conquer approach could spark a new civil war.
