During her state visit to Vietnam, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi secured an agreement to elevate cooperation in economic security as a new priority area for bilateral ties. The two nations also reached a consensus on supporting crude oil procurement for Vietnamese refineries, strengthening energy security.
In a joint statement following talks with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Takaichi highlighted that expanding collaboration in economic security—including supply chain resilience and critical technologies—will be a cornerstone of future Japan-Vietnam relations. The agreement comes as part of Tokyo's broader strategy to deepen partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region.
The leaders further agreed to enhance cooperation on ensuring stable energy supplies, specifically backing Vietnam's oil refineries in securing crude imports. This move is seen as a step to bolster Vietnam's energy independence and regional stability.
